UNIFORM BUYING GUIDES

Housekeeping Uniforms: A Practical Selection Checklist

Housekeeping uniforms need to work through a shift that may involve bending, reaching, walking and moving between guest areas and service spaces. For a purchase manager, a useful selection process begins with those tasks and ends with a written, approved specification. Use this checklist to assess a sample before committing to a bulk order.

1. Map the tasks before choosing the silhouette

Ask the housekeeping team to describe a typical shift. List the movements, equipment and items they carry, and identify any differences between room attendants, public-area staff and supervisors. A photograph shows appearance; a fitting trial shows how the garment works.

Compare upper length, sleeve length, fastening position and the intended fit while staff perform ordinary movements. Check whether the garment stays comfortable when the wearer raises an arm or bends. Record the feedback instead of relying on a single person’s preference.

2. Check pockets and practical details on a sample

Decide what the uniform actually needs to carry. Check pocket opening, depth and placement with the relevant lightweight items during a fitting. Avoid assuming that additional pockets are always useful; the position should make sense for the role.

Review seams, hems and fastenings on the physical sample. Ask the supplier to clarify which features are included in the quoted article and which require a different design or additional charge. Keep requested changes in one written list.

3. Match the proposed uniform to the laundry process

Share the intended washing, drying and finishing process with the supplier. If the hotel outsources laundry, involve that provider before approval. Request the garment and decoration care instructions rather than applying one wash setting to every article.

Arrange an agreed sample wash trial and record observations before and after washing, including measurements, appearance, colour and fastening condition. Confirm the intended process with the supplier before testing. A trial is a purchasing check, not a guarantee of performance under every laundry condition.

4. Record upper and lower sizes separately

Use the supplier’s measurement guidance and size chart. Collect the information for each staff member, including any special fitting needs, then organise the quantities by article and size. An upper-garment label should not be used as a substitute for a trouser measurement.

Calculate the issue quantity explicitly. If ten attendants receive two upper garments each, the starting requirement is 20 upper garments. Add lower garments, accessories and spare stock as separate lines. This makes both the quotation and the receiving check easier to reconcile.

5. Approve colour, branding and replacement details

Review the proposed colour under the hotel’s lighting and agree logo dimensions and placement. If different grades of staff use different colours or accessories, record the distinction against the relevant role. Retain the approved sample reference.

Ask about minimum replacement quantities and future fabric availability. Keep the article code, fabric details, colour and logo file together. When reordering, check availability and possible shade differences before assuming that a new batch will match an earlier one exactly.

6. Send a clear housekeeping uniform enquiry

Browse WOOL O WOOL’s hotel collection to identify suitable housekeeping articles, then send the team your requirement. The business manufactures institutional uniforms in Chandigarh and has operated since 1978. Confirm current samples, pricing and delivery for the selected articles.

  • Hotel name, delivery city and approving contact.
  • Roles, staff count and garments issued per employee.
  • Size breakdown, fabric and colour preferences.
  • Laundry process, branding requirements and required delivery date.

Common questions

Should supervisors and room attendants wear identical uniforms?

That is an operational and branding choice. Decide whether roles need a visible distinction, then specify the garment, colour or accessory for each group.

Can we choose housekeeping uniforms from photographs alone?

Photographs help shortlist styles. Review a sample and the supplier’s specifications before approving fit, fabric and construction for a bulk order.

How many spare uniforms should we buy?

Base spare quantities on recruitment plans, size distribution, laundry turnaround and your issue policy. There is no single allowance that fits every property.
